Ultralight Backpacking Package

Imagine covering a third more distance in your hiking day, arriving at your destination in less time then you ever imagined and with enough energy left over to actually enjoy yourself once you get there. This is not a fantasy. This is ultralight backpacking. To help you realize your ultralight dream, Backcountrystore.com has put together the Ultimate Ultralight Package, an all-inclusive backpacking package weighing 9.5 pounds offered to you at a substantial discount. Ultralight backpacking has taken off. Don’t get left in the dust carrying that heavy old lunker of yours, check out what we’ve got to offer.

We chose The North Face Prophet 45 as our ultralight backpack. Made from 210D Dyneema Uberfabric, the Prophet is incredibly durable as well as super light. Weighing only 3lbs 2oz empty, The Prophet 45 is an ideal pack to begin filling with all sorts of ultralight goodies.
Next we considered hydration. Backpacking is thirsty work, so we chose a 1 liter MSR Dromedary bag with on-the-go drinking hose to keep you watered. When you arrive at camp hydrated and happy, hang the bag up and let the water flow. This feature is very useful for washing dirty dishes.
For an ultralight waterfilter we chose the SafeWater compact carbon water filter. This filter splices right into your drinking hose for on the move filtration, weighs only 2.5 oz, and will treat over 60 gallons of water. The primary filter removes 99.9% of E. coli, giardia and cryptosporidium, keeping you in top form.
Our choice of headlamps is the Petzl Zipka headlamp. This lamp is powerful enough to shed light on any dark situation, and small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. Three AAA batteries, included, power three LED bulbs in this tiny but powerful unit. Petzl set out to make this puppy as light as can be, opting for a retractable headband instead of an external strap. At a mere 64 grams, it’s hard to believe this light is as powerful as it is.
Backcountrystore.com’s pick of ultralight stoves is the Snowpeak Giga Power Stove. The Giga is a manual ignition, titanium stove that fits in the palm of your hand. The Giga stove has an adjustable flame, and with it’s 10,000 BTU’s is able to boil a liter of water in under four minutes. Weighing in at only three oz, the Snowpeak Giga is an ultralight gourmet’s dream.
For cookware, we’ve chosen the Snow Peak Titanium Mini-Solo cookset. This set includes a 4 1/4" d x 43/4" pot, 10oz cup and nylon stuff sack. The whole set weighs 5.5 oz and comes in a mesh stuff sack. Enjoy the fruits of your labor with the Snowpeak Titanium Spork. The no rust spork cuts your utensil weight in half by being your spoon and your fork. The spork weighs a little over an ounce, and because it’s titanium, you needn’t worry about a metallic smell or taste.
The Bibler Hooped Bivy Sack is our shelter of choice for a lightweight place to sleep. The “hoop” is a Delrin rod sewn into the sack so there is nothing to set up and no parts to lose. A double stormflap and rain gutter have no sewn seams, so they can’t leak. Weighing only 1lb 7oz, you can’t find a nicer, lighter weight place to seek shelter from the storm
We selected the Kelty Light Year as our ultralight sleeping bag, a 25 degree bag filled with 650 fill down. This bag is perfect for lightweight trips from May through October. Kelty combines a half-length side zipper with a 13” zipper in the toe box to spare weight without decreasing the bags ventilation. The Light Year weighs only 2 lbs. and it’s stuff size is 6 x 12”, smaller than a 2 liter soda bottle. If your camping destination requires a synthetic choice of bag, we also offer The North Face Flight, a 32 degree 2lb 3oz Polarguard Delta bag for wet conditions.
We complete the package with the Therm-a-rest Z Rest ¾ sleeping pad. This is the softest, lightest and most compact closed-cell foam pad money can buy. The Z weighs only 11.5 oz, and makes sleeping much warmer and more comfortable.
An ultralight package like this will greatly simplify your trip, and allow you to travel further distances before fatigue sets in. With the dromedary full of water, dehydrated food, stove fuel, and some sensible clothing choices, the pack weight should max out to about 16 pounds. Do the math. How much more weight are you carrying than you need to be? Everything you need to leave the 9-5 behind is right here…in 9.5 lbs.
